Online hypnotherapy sessions are very similar to face to face sessions in a clinic except you remain in your own home. In this blog I will describe what happens in a typical online hypnotherapy session, along with some of the questions that I am asked about working in this way.
Following an initial consultation, the first part of each hypnotherapy session consists of talking therapy. I work with ‘solution-focused’ therapy which focuses on solutions to problems rather than taking you back over the past. In this part of the session we discuss your needs and goals and using solution-focused techniques help you to imagine your preferred future, a future where you have a more useful perspective on the quality of your life.
The second part of the session consists of the hypnotherapy itself and here I will guide you into a relaxed state of hypnosis to re-enforce what we have discussed. Hypnosis is an extremely pleasant state of relaxation, similar to day dreaming. You remain awake and totally in control at all times. A solution-focused hypnotherapist will usually create the state of hypnosis through the use of positive visualisations. It is a very empowering process that helps you to make positive changes in your life using the best mindset. It is also a very relaxing and enjoyable experience.
What do you need to access hypnotherapy sessions online?
A computer, laptop, or tablet with reasonably good internet connection or a smartphone. To use a computer or laptop you will need a webcam and a mic, so if this is not available, think about using your phone or tablet.
I currently use Zoom to facilitate sessions. It is not necessary to have a Zoom account as I will send a meeting link via email. However, if you want to sign up for a Zoom account this is free.
You will need to find a quiet place where you are able to lie back and relax. A bedroom or sofa is ideal. You will also need to consider confidentiality. Does the session need to be private? Can you be in a space where you are uninterrupted and cannot be overheard? You may wish to use headphones.
Does hypnotherapy work as well online as it does face to face?
I have worked as a Clinical Hypnotherapist since 2013. During most of this time I have worked in clinics, or at my private practice, and have seen very good results. Since 2015 I have also worked with clients online and have seen just as effective results. Many clients have also commented on how nice it is to have the sessions in the comfort of their own home.
