Hospital Hypnotherapy Service
In addition to my private practice I worked for a number of years within the NHS at the University Hospital of Wales Cardiff, helping patients (receiving treatment for cancer) with anxiety related issues. I worked with the Hospital Hypnotherapy Service which provides a free hypnotherapy service for patients having chemotherapy within the Haematology Department at UHW.
The service was set up to help patients affected by anticipatory nausea and vomiting (ANV) associated with chemotherapy, but the hypnotherapy team are also able to help with other anxiety related issues. These include:
- Needle phobia
- Insomnia
- Anxiety and stress that may arise from illness
Since the service was founded the team of hospital hypnotherapists have received more and more referrals as the benefits of hypnotherapy are increasingly recognised. In November 2016 we were thrilled to win a Beacon of Hope Award from the Lymphoma Association, in recognition of our work within UHW’s Haematology Department.
The team of Clincial Hypnotherapists all trained with the prestigious Clifton Practice School of Hypnotherapy and hold the Hypnotherapy Practitioners Diploma. All members of the team have also undergone further training in medical hypnotherapy theory and practice.
If you are a patient receiving chemotherapy at UHW and are interested in learning more about this service please speak to your Specialist Nurse or Oncologist who can refer you to a hospital hypnotherapist. The service is available to patients on the Haematology Ward, Haematology Day Unit and within the Teenage Cancer Trust Unit.
Please note: Most people who have chemotherapy do not suffer from ANV (being or feeling sick before the chemo starts), so if you are about to start chemo do not be worried about this.
